Tides Festival
TIDES was an online music festival livestreamed on 27 March 2021. It was a partnership between Live Argyll, Dunoon Burgh Hall and CHARTS, funded by Creative Scotland. It gave out 11 awards to independent musicians and groups. Here are a few words about the festival from Producer Iain Maclean, who worked tirelessly to make this event not only one to remember but something we might be able to repeat in future years:
I’ve worked for years in live music and needed to recreate as much of the live experience as possible during the TIDES festival.
One of the ways we did that is to give a sense of place for the music, focusing it from Dunoon Burgh Hall in a way that reflects the very best of Argyll.
The festival had a broad mix of music, using the historic Dunoon Burgh Hall backdrop split into three distinct ‘virtual stages’. With its stunning stained glass window, our’ main hall’ stage hosted the larger setups of Heron Valley, Jack Ruby 5, Inverhooley Ceilidh Band and The Camans. Solo acts like Mairi McGillivary, Abigail Pryde, and Seylan Baxter were filmed performing in the foyer of the halls next to the stunning Robert Stewart Ceramic mural. The Gallery area staged digital submissions, presenting artwork in an appropriate context.
We urgently need your support to save Dunoon Burgh Hall, a cornerstone of our town’s cultural and community life.
