Birth of first Caretaker’s daughter

The first caretaker, George Gow Fairlie, married Jane Stevenson McCallum on 5th June 1868. He is listed as a lighthouse keeper in Toward, and she was from Dunoon. They had a son also called George Gow Fairlie, born on 22nd December 1872, with an address in Edward Street, and the father was listed as a Joiner. They had a second child, Agnes Shinloch Fairlie, born 4th December 1874, listed at the Burgh Buildings, Dunoon. George Gow Fairlie died on 29th January 1887 in Greenock after Thomas Thomson, a slater, took over as caretaker on 3rd November 1886.
