Book Week Scotland – now in its eleventh year – is an annual celebration of books and reading that takes place across the country in November. During Book Week, people of all ages and walks of life come together to share the joy of reading.

We’re delighted that this year columnist, novelist and writer John Nicholson will be helping us celebrate Book Week here at the Burgh Hall.

John grew up on Teesside in the 70’s and has lived in over 20 different places from the North of Scotland to Southern California. His writing career began in 2000 when he started writing for Football365, and he has gone on to write for a variety of publications and newspapers. He has done Edinburgh Fringe reviews for many years and was on the comedy awards panel in 2015.

In 2010 his book about the history of football culture in the UK ‘We Ate All The Pies’ was long-listed for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year, in 2020 ‘Can We Have Our Football Back’ was longlisted for the Telegraph’s ‘Sports Book of the Year and in 2019 John was long-listed for Writer Of The Year by the Football Supporters Association.

As if all this wasn’t enough, he also writes novels including the Nick Guymer and Artie Taylor mysteries and contributes features to Rock Candy magazine (which celebrates rock music of the 70s and 80’s).

This talk will be a taster for a series of writing workshops that John will be running with us in the New Year – keep an eye on our socials and website for more info!

(John has kindly agreed to donate all proceeds from this talk to the Burgh Hall.)
