This is an old event
This is a free, practical workshop from sustainable design and research agency Tacit-Tacit. Led by Argyll based boat builder Ben Neville, you will learn how to make a timber hand tool.
During the workshop Ben will take you through the basics of how to make a wooden mallet using traditional techniques. You will learn about different timbers and how to work with them using hand tools and will be given guidance on tool care. The mallet you make can be used in future workshops to help build prototype sections of a beach hut for West Bay. You don’t need any prior experience, just a willingness to learn, ask questions and support this project. Places are free, but limited, and are open to anyone over the age of 18.
During each workshop you will also get the chance to learn about the local heritage of beach huts on West Bay, Dunoon and the research generated through the “We are building a beach hut” project.
If you have any questions about the workshop please contact Claire.Hallybone@argyll-bute.gov.uk

The “We are building a beach hut” project is a community led design initiative developed by Tacit Tacit and a local team of creative practitioners based at the POP shop, Dunoon. The project is delivered in partnership with the Dunoon Area Alliance and Dunoon CARS project and aims to involve people living in Dunoon with the regeneration of West Bay by exploring the heritage of beach huts and looking at how the natural and built environment will be impacted by climate change.
This project is funded by CHArts : Evolve & Heritage Horizons, Dunoon CARS , Dunoon Area Alliance and Scottish Towns Partnership .
