Time: 2pm

Type: Learning

Paddy has a fascinating life history. She was born and brought up on a remote farm and lived through the bush war as a child and as a politically aware teenager. After a brief spell in a television newsroom, she became a nurse in bush hospitals, coming face to face with the stark realities of war. Later, she qualified as a teacher of English and Latin and was then ordained as a priest. A resident of Dunoon, she has lived and served in Scotland since 1998 and is also a very talented artist.

Paddy is a compelling speaker, and we look forward to hearing about her reflections on Zimbabwe then and now.

All members are welcome to attend the meeting with anyone else in Cowal who is retired or semi-retired and interested in u3a. We are a friendly bunch and will make you very welcome!

u3a is a UK-wide movement of locally-run interest groups that provide a wide range of opportunities to come together to learn for fun. Members explore new ideas, skills and activities together.

There are over 1000 u3as with around 400,000 members; membership costs less than £20 on average per year and is open to everyone who’s not working full-time.

u3a has members who draw upon their knowledge and experience to teach and learn from each other but there are no qualifications to pass – it is just for pleasure. Learning is its own reward.

It’s all voluntary; a typical u3a will be home to many activity groups covering hundreds of different subjects – from art to zoology and everything in between.
