Do you know any young people who love art and being creative? We have a great FREE workshop coming up for kids over 5 years old here at the hall on Saturday 17th August.

Our current gallery exhibition is a mesmerising exhibition of works on paper by the internationally acclaimed Latvian-American artist Vija Celmins. Featuring a group of extraordinary prints and drawings made between 1974 and 2010, it is drawn from a remarkable collection of her work in ARTIST ROOMS, presented in partnership with Tate and National Galleries of Scotland.

As part of the programme of events linked to this exhibition, artist Jill Bryson is holding a fantastic “mark making” workshop.

Mark making describes the different line, dots, marks, patterns and textures we create in artwork and can apply to any material used on any surface:

  • paint on canvas
  • ink or pencil on paper
  • a scratched mark on plaster
  • a digital paint tool on a screen

Even a sound can be a form of mark making!

The workshop will give participants the chance to experiment with different mediums and is a great way to encourage young people to express themselves creatively.

There’s no need to book – kids can drop in and stay as long as they like between 10.30am and 12.30pm (and our cafe will be open – just in case any grown-ups need a place to sit and have a coffee or a spot of lunch while they’re waiting for their junior artists!).

Dunoon Burgh Hall is a fully accessible building.
