Workshop for Ages 10 - 14

Saturday 19th June 2021 - 12.30pm to 4.00pm

What is Mark Making? Does it just mean dots, scribbles, and brushstrokes?!!

Mark making describes the different lines, dots, marks, patterns, and textures we create in an artwork. It can be loose and gestural or controlled and neat. It can apply to any material used on any surface: paint on canvas, ink or pencil on paper, a scratched mark on plaster, a digital paint tool on a screen…even a sound can be a form of mark making.

Artists use gesture to express their responses to something seen or something felt, or to create a purely abstract composition.

Join Amy and Gini on an exploration of your environment, collecting found objects along the way. We will guide you through making your own mark maker out of collected objects and later provide an experimental space to make marks inspired by your surroundings, in all sorts of expressive ways, with Amy making the makers, and Gini making the marks.

This workshop is for ages 10 - 14 years and is FREE! As places are limited, booking is essential.

Participants will be required to complete a consent form which can be downloaded below.

Please bring your own refreshments!

The workshop is part of our activities relating to the exhibition "Exposure" which opens at the Burgh Hall on 18th June 2021.
