Ages of Wonder: The Royal Scottish Academy Life School
Published: 18 October 2018
Our next exhibition is titled "AGES OF WONDER: The Royal Scottish Academy life School"
In November 2017, the Royal Scottish Academy of Art & Architecture staged its biggest collection based show in a generation - Ages of Wonder: Scotland's Art 1540 to Now.
The Royal Scottish Academy Life School is one of two galleries taken from this critically acclaimed exhibition that will tour Scotland. Beginning at Linlithgow Burgh Halls, the exhibition travelled to Rozelle House in Ayr before it will end its journey for 2018 here at Dunoon Burgh Hall.
The exhibition is a diverse mix of historic works from S J Peploe to William Etty, works created by contemporary artists including Beth Fisher, George Donald and Christine Borland, and the new drawings of emerging artists.
During Ages of Wonder, the RSA hosted a live Life School. A group of emerging artists drew from a live model in the galleries. They developed ther work over the course of nine sessions, under the expert tutelage of eminent artists John Byrne, George Donald, Jennifer McRae and Robert Rivers. Drawings by the seven artists, created just last year as part of Ages of Wonder, have been selected for the collections and this tour. They bring the RSA's Life School right into the contemporary era and emphasise the support of emerging artists that has always been at the heart of the RSA as an artists collective.
