Join Peter Baxter, Curator of Benmore Botanic Garden, as he discusses his fieldwork in Chile and the development of the Chilean Rainforest at Benmore. This work has contributed to him successfully introducing a considerable number of conservation plants to Benmore and within Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s Living collection.

A major achievement of his work has been the successful restoration of the Victorian Fernery at Benmore and, more recently, the restoration of the A listed Golden Gates.

Peter will also discuss the geo injection programme of works – the aim of which is to alleviate compaction and improve drainage to the giant redwood avenue. Widely regarded as one of the most impressive entrances to any botanic garden, the programme aims to help restore the trees to better health.

This will be a fascinating insight behind the Gates of the Gardens from an expert in his field – in 2022, Peter was awarded the RHS Associate of Honour for outstanding services to horticulture, an award given for life and which is only held by 100 people at any time.

The talk is part of our 150th Anniversary fundraising programme – you can book your ticket through our website, where you can choose the amount you’d like to contribute to our crowdfunder: £5, £10 or £20.
