Jack Bryson was born in 1930 in Glasgow and grew up in the Hutchensontown area of the Gorbals.
Always interested in creative practices but unable to pursue them professionally for economic reasons, he spent his spare time developing his skills, first as a keen amateur photographer in the 1950s and ‘60s, then as an artist in the 1970s onwards. He showed a particular flair for portraits in his preferred medium of pastels.
He attended classes at the Washington Arts Centre in the Finnieston area of Glasgow and was taught there by the well known Scottish artist and writer Alasdair Gray.
Jack spent much of his spare time in Argyll pursuing his love of nature and exploring the many lochs on the various small boats that he built in his garden in Glasgow. He was thrilled to move to Dunoon and adores the town and surrounding countryside.
He continues with his love of photography and art to this day.
