The Importance of Volunteers
Without the skills, talents and commitment of local people the Burgh Hall could not have been saved and brought back to the heart of the community. Following years of campaigning, it was the actions of local activists that drew the attention of the John McAslan Family Trust and led to the building finally being rescued. There have been many committed volunteers involved as ‘Friends of the Burgh Hall’ over these years of struggle, and their efforts and support have been invaluable in getting the project to where it is today. Their time and efforts are still very much appreciated by those involved now and whether involved in campaigning, scrubbing, cleaning, making, baking, repairing, building, fundraising, counting, writing or entertaining - we thank them, one and all. Getting involved
The current team of volunteers continue to do amazing things and there are lots of exciting opportunities for many more people to get involved with the development of the project and its programme of arts, cultural and heritage activities. We are always keen to hear from anyone who has some spare time to offer or who has an interest in the arts that they would like to develop.
Volunteering opportunities include:
o Helping invigilate at our art exhibitions, meeting and greeting the public and showing people around.
o Becoming part of our volunteer stewarding team, which helps set up for events and covers a variety of duties including front of house ticket sales, staffing the tearoom and working behind the bar.
o Adding your name to our DIY and Clean Up Team – the ongoing refurbishment work ensures that there is always something needing fixed or cleaned somewhere in the building!
o Joining our fundraising efforts by helping organise community events and fundraising fun.
o Bringing together a group of people interested in a particular arts activity and helping to develop new ideas – perhaps you are keen to find a singing group, creative art workshops or some other exciting initiative? The sky is the limit.
Whatever your interest, we would be delighted to hear from you. Just pop in or contact us
